I Blink, and it's Years Later

I Blink, and It's Years Later
by Marjorie Cocjin
Created: June 2007

I wake up and see your face,
Soft in the morning light.
I see in your expression
A million more mornings
of smiling down on me
As our room glows
With love, sunrise and whispers of eternity.

You take my face into your hands
And kiss me gently,
Cradle my warm body against yours
Your arm strong on my back
Your words grow in my heart
I blink and it's years after

Mornings like this have passed us by
The sound of children dancing into our room
A welcome interruption to our slumber
But before we take them upon ourselves,
You hold my hand just a little bit longer
And I feel your promise of this day.

I grow stronger
As you grow weaker
You grow wiser
As my sight becomes dim.

I blink and it's years later.
We're alone now.
Years have seen mornings like this.
But you still hold me
Take my face in your hands
Kiss me softly
And fill my heart with whispers of eternity
As the room continues to glow
With years of love
And promises of forever
